The very first meme (Or the earliest) was the "Dancing Baby" also known as "Baby Cha-Cha" which was made accidentally by people called Michael Girard and Robert Lurye. Another early meme that was made was called Hamster Dance. The original Hampster Dance website was created by Canadian Deidre LaCarte, an art student at the time, during a competition between her best friend and sister to see who could generate the most web traffic. LaCarte created an homage to her pet hamster, Hampton, featuring 392 animated hamster sprites doing different dances. Later it became a meme. Soon enough other funny things like that became memes.
